Mutton Oaks

Structural Engineer: Spark Structures

Contractor: Exact Building

Location: Berkshire

This 1990’s property had an impractical conservatory, hot in summer and cold in winter, and a relatively small dining room. There’s an abundance of wildlife that passes through the garden, thanks in part to the dedicated badger reserve next door. The brief we developed with the client was to improve the connection to the garden and provide a better space for entertaining guests whilst still being cosy enough for everyday use by the couple.

The 26m2 ground floor extension, created an open plan kitchen and dining space and a comfortable snug area with a low window and bench seat to look out to the garden. Underfloor heating was integrated throughout and a single off-set steel column allows the doors to retract leaving an open corner, creating a generous connection to the outside.

Working collaboratively with the clients on the interior design we have created an overall calm and welcoming space, suitable for entertaining but intimate for everyday use.
