Matt Hopkins
Architect
Matt is an Architect, Urban Designer and Educator with over 10 years experience working with public and private sector clients. He oversees all aspects of the company with a focus on; research, design, engagement, collaboration, strategy and project management. He is an RIBA member, registered with ARB, a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, one of five Chairs of the Hertfordshire Design Review Panel and assists the Council with specialist Planning Support. He also collaborates with the furniture and product design company Norwegian Wood.
Before setting up Group 19, Matt worked on the design and delivery of award-winning public realm projects in Central London, including Bond Street, Hanover Square and Burlington Gardens. This developed an acute understanding of public spaces and how they can be improved.
Matt teaches one day a week as a Design Studio Tutor at the University of Reading School of Architecture.. He enjoys helping to impart real-world knowledge to future professionals whilst ensuring the practice remains at the forefront of conceptual thinking and research.
Matt volunteers his expertise for ongoing projects at Horsenden Farm. He enjoys playing drums, cycling and life on his narrowboat with Rachael, and their young daughter.
Rachael Hill
Studio Manager
Rachael currently works part-time with a focus on operations, sales, book-keeping and communications. She previously worked for a Gallery in Central London curating a number of exhibitions showcasing the work of underrepresented artists. She has previously worked within a horticultural company as a production manager helping to curate growbars, a grow your own seeded coir bar.
Rachael founded the bespoke products and furniture brand Norwegian Wood, designing and crafting in collaboration with Matt.
When she’s not in the studio, Rachael balances caring for her and Matt’s young daughter with her love of sewing, visiting art galleries, and gardening at Horsenden Farm.
