Alperton Underground
Railway Bridge

Location: Alperton, West London

In October 2025 we were appointed by The London Borough of Brent to create a new artwork for the Alperton Underground Railway Bridge across the Ealing Road. To deliver this project we are collaborating with the Textile Designer, Sapna Patel, Artist, Anna Ferrie, Graphic Designer Charlotte Lord and Strategist, Quyen Phan.

We have facilitated two co-creation workshops with two local schools, one inspired by the nearby canal, the other by the fashion and textile shops along Ealing Road. We hosted an engagement workshop boat trip on the Elsdale II Floating Classroom with local stakeholders and residents, and a week long ‘Work In Progress’ exhibition at ASC Canalside Gallery in Alperton. Each workshop and event fed into the next allowing the local community to creatively input into the project and inform the artwork for the bridge.

The works have been developed in consultation with TfL, we have defined a bold colour palette of red, yellow and green through the engagement sessions. This has been carefully coordinated across the bridge and four artwork panels derived from the co-creation workshops. The two placenames of ‘Ealing Road’ which lies north of the bridge and ‘Alperton’ sitting predominantly to the south have been incorporated, uniting these two places.

Two artworks are derived from the bold block printed fabrics created with Year 12 and 13 textile students at Alperton Community School. The two other artworks are of a Kingfisher, prevalent along the local Canal, and a Peacock, synonymous with Ealing Road, appearing in jewellery shops, festive lighting design and other artworks. These two collages have been inspired by the outputs of the co-creation workshop with Year 6 pupils at Lyon Park Primary School. The collages utilise prints made with pupils, printing blocks derived from their artwork and rubbings made from items found along the canal.

We’d like to give special thanks to local fabric store Joshitex and artist Neera Sehgal for donating materials to the workshops and Cans for sponsoring drinks during the work in progress exhibition.
